Prior to founding Chindex International, Inc. together with her friend and former classmate, Roberta Lipson, from 1980-1981, Ms. Silverberg worked with Ms. Lipson at Sobin Chemical, Inc. From 1979-1980, Ms. Silverberg was an intern in China with the National Council for U.S.-China Trade.

Ms. Silverberg graduated Phi Betta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude from SUNY Albany where she earned her degree with a double major in Chinese Studies and History. She has also studied at the Beijing Language Institute and Peking University.

Ms. Silverberg is an active community member in Beijing and presently serves as the Chairman of the School Board of the International School of Beijing.
