Healthcare Services
Chindex leads the foreign-invested healthcare services industry in China.  In 1997, Chindex established the model for private healthcare services with the opening of its Beijing United Family Hospital. This flagship Chindex hospital continues to provide the standard of excellence in family and acute care medical services in Beijing.

In October 2004, Chindex opened Shanghai United Family Hospital, the second hospital in the Chindex Healthcare Network.  With this hospital Chindex continues the expansion of its international-standard, patient-centered care in China and firmly establishes the United Family Hospital brand as the primary provider of healthcare to the international and private pay local community in China.

Both Beijing United Family Hospital & Clinics and Shanghai United Family Hospital & Clinics are complemented by affiliated free standing ambulatory clinics in each city. These clinics are located in the heavily-expatriate-populated Shunyi area of Beijing, in the St. Regis Hotel in the heart of Beijing's diplomatic quarter, and in the Shanghai Racquet Club in Shanghai's Minhang District. The clinics provide outpatient services in locations convenient to the homes and offices of the hospitals' patients and serve as referral bases for the hopitals. The unique Chindex Healthcare Network is bringing comprehensive international standard, private healthcare services to China for the first time.  Future plans include the establishment of additional United Family Hospitals ("UFH"s) with associated clinics.  Chindex has signed a Letter of Intent with Xiamen Zhongshan Hospital to establish a third UFH in the wealthy coastal city of Xiamen and continues to explore other opportunities to expand its hospital network.  The UFHs that make up the Chindex Healthcare Network will all share a common senior management and resources.

Community Activities

United Family Hospitals are always committed to giving back to the community.  The community activites hosted by the UFHs bring the hospital and its clients together.  The activities are aimed to serve the expatriate as well as the local populations in meeting their medical needs and providing useful healthcare information

Community Blood Drive

In cooperation with the Beijing Red Cross, BJU holds monthly community blood drives.  Donors from all nationalities and professions, and their family members, regularly support this much-needed program.  All Blood Donation processes meet American  Blood Bank accreditation standards.

Welcome to Beijing/Shanghai Health Tips

A free community health seminar designed to provide useful health tips for new arrivals in Beijing or Shanghai is presented at regular intervals at both UFH facilities.  In addition to presentations by UFH physicians, hospital tours, and pre-registration, these seminars also provide a good opportunity for participants to meet fellow newcomers and develop friendships.  Seminar topics include:

  • How to Survive & Thrive in Beijing/Shanghai
  • First Aid Know-How
  • Recommended Vaccinations & Immunizations
  • Receiving Blood in China
  • Child Safety Precautions
  • What to Do in an Emergency Situation
  • Preparing your AiYi/Nanny
Charitable Programs

UFHs have a mission to provide not only healthcare and well being for the individual, but also for the community at large.

  • The United Family Hospitals work with The American Education and Health Foundation to donate medical services, including doctor visits, surgery, inpatient stays, and gifts to sponsored orphanages in China.
  • BJU holds a holiday toy drive for the children at the orphanages that it sponsors.

Healthcare Information

In addition to high-quality, international-standard healthcare services, the UHFs  provide healthcare information on a monthly basis to its clients and patients.  "Health Flash," written by UHF doctors and published on the UHF website, offers advice and basic knowledge about specific healthcare topics.  "Health in the News" provides an overview of recent news items.   The "Health Matters" newsletter also provides access to both the latest information and recent developments in the UFH network.

Healthcare Classes

Supporting its healthcare services, the UFHs provide a wide range of healthcare classes, including:

  • CPR -- for infants, children, and adults
  • First Aid Training Class -- a must for parents, as basic life saving skills are taught
  • Ayi First Aid Training Class -- provides useful, everday advice on health and hygiene as well as on food preparation
  • Senior First Aid Class -- a comprehensive course suitable for everyday emergency situations
  • Pregnancy and Childbirth Classes -- provide the opportunity to explore different aspects of pregnancy and parenthood

Membership Programs

The UFHs have a joint membership program, offering participants
the same benefits at the BJU and SHU hospital facilities, with easy access to both hospitals.
